The Savoy Society is the oldest society at Royal Holloway (est. 1966) and is the first performing arts society specialising in operas and operettas. Savoy had to be more modern and brought up to date as it had been criticised for being stuck in history due to some of it's out of date methods. A balance needed to be struck between the history and a clean modern feel to appeal to a wider audience.
